After the severe explosion in a house in Rohrbach an der Ilm in Upper Bavaria, forensic medicine autopsied the two bodies. The results should be announced in the course of the day, said police spokesman Karl Höpfl on Saturday in Ingolstadt.

Rohrbach an der Ilm – The two dead could be a married couple – a 55-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman – who had lived on the ground floor of the completely collapsed semi-detached house.

The background to the explosion is still a mystery. This could be related to a fatal accident in the region and a fire in an empty apartment in Saxony, which occurred around the same time on Thursday. The police discovered a body in the rubble in Rohrbach an der Ilm on Friday. The second is the person who was burned beyond recognition in the car.

According to the police, the car is registered to the address of the destroyed house, the apartment in Lugau, Saxony, belonged to the owner of the semi-detached house. In both cases, gas cylinders could have been involved. Gas could also have triggered the explosion in Rohrbach an der Ilm (Pfaffenhofen district).

“The investigations have only just started,” said Höpfl. These would probably drag on until next week. The fire investigators have now completed their work at the scene of the accident and are evaluating the traces. The devastating force of the explosion complicates the investigation. dpa
