Kassel – As every summer, air from the north of Africa heads towards Europe. According to wetter.de, the heat bubbles from the Sahara are sometimes particularly intense this year. The European heat record was also shaking. For example, people in south-west Europe have had to endure heat peaks of over 40 degrees.

Spain is particularly affected by the extreme summer weather. “At its peak, the weather computers calculate maximum values of up to almost 44 degrees in places. These are definitely dangerous temperatures – especially for the elderly. And for everyone else, too, the motto must be to take it easy and drink enough. Especially since it barely cools below 25 degrees even at night, ”says RTL meteorologist Björn Alexander.

Extreme heat wave in Europe: Up to 44 degrees

It will be the hottest in Andalusia and the Murcia region. “According to current forecasts, Granada will be the hottest city with around 43, maybe even 44 degrees. But even in Murcia, maximum values of 41 degrees and more are possible, ”predicts the meteorologist.

An extreme heat wave hits parts of Europe and brings temperatures well over 40 degrees – these holiday countries are particularly affected.

In Mallorca, too, people are probably working up a sweat not only because of the increasing number of Corona * cases. Directly on the coast it is not that hot during the day, but: “In the middle of the Balearic island, however, it can also get 36 to 38 degrees. At night, the lowest values are still very sweaty and rather slack-hostile 24 degrees, ”says Alexander.

Extreme heat wave in Europe: Saharan dust is also coming – rain of blood possible?

According to the expert, the hot air bubble from North Africa also comes with plenty of Saharan dust. The sky will therefore be partly milky. It is uncertain whether the so-called blood shower is also possible. “There would be enough dust from the depths of the Sahara,” says Alexander.
