Ezpeleta reveals when he expects Marc Márquez to run again

A new case of diplopia has again jeopardized Marc Márquez’s regularity in the MotoGP World Championship. The Cervera driver experienced a heavy crash during the Indonesian Grand Prix last weekend, which led to another double vision problem for the #93. At the moment, Márquez is in a period of absolute rest until he receives the “fit” (fit) from the doctors.

After announcing his withdrawal from Termas de Río Hondo, the Repsol Honda Team rider will be replaced by the brand’s tester, Stefan Bradl. And although the exact dates are unknown, the absence of the eighth champion could last until the Jerez test, scheduled for May 1.

However, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta hopes to see Márquez when the European round starts in Portimao, assuring that this weekend could be a turning point for the driver’s career.

“This diplopia does not affect Marc as much as in October, so I hope he can get back on the bike as soon as possible. Maybe he will try it in Portimao on April 24. But it seems that the break could last longer,” Ezpeleta introduced in a talk with Speedweek .

During the Indonesian Grand Prix, Márquez experienced four crashes, which could suggest that the driver completely ruled out giving up his chances of competing for the world title. Given this situation, Ezpeleta suggested that Marc “should not be in a hurry to win.”

Instead, the CEO of Dorna assures that he should focus individually on the races.

“Márquez should not think about winning the World Cup, but only on Sundays. The season is still long, we have 21 grand prix planned,” he expanded for the German media.

“If I get a decent result there [in Portugal], I would have a chance to fight for the top places in 2022. I don’t know if he can win or not,” he hesitated. “But if he fights for victory in every race, he could be in the position of a title contender.”

“It will also depend on the results of the rivals. If each driver only wins one race, Marc could still be in the fight for the title if he develops the necessary consistency”, settled Carmelo Ezpeleta.
