Ezpeleta: "Yamaha will only have two bikes next year; the following I think not"

During the past weekend, Aprilia and RNF confirmed their alliance with a view to the next season, in which the Malaysian team, led by Razlan Razali , will become the satellite formation of the Noale brand.

Implicitly, this will lead Yamaha to keep only two prototypes, the two official ones, which on paper should belong to Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli, waiting for the tuning fork brand to confirm both –Morbidelli has a valid contract, but its results make it difficult not to doubt its continuity.

Regarding the fact that the grid for heavy bikes goes from 24 bikes to 22, Ezpeleta considers that this number is great, since it is above the minimum.

“For us, 20 bikes is already enough for the championship, so 22 is an ideal number,” Ezpeleta agreed, speaking to Motorsport.com on Wednesday. Despite this, the CEO of Dorna, the promoter of the MotoGP World Championship, hints that this situation will be temporary, given that Yamaha will soon put back four of its M1s: “Next year, Yamaha will only have two bikes; the following I think not”.

In that sense, the most logical move would be for VR46 , which currently competes with Ducati, to reach an agreement to break this agreement, which expires in 2024, and ally itself with the brand of fingerboards.

Regarding the relations that Dorna maintains with Suzuki , after the Hamamatsu manufacturer announced that it will lower the blind at the end of this year, the championship boss acknowledged having an agreement in principle for the goodbye of the Japanese manufacturer, which will break the contract signed on last year, for which he promised to remain in the World Championship until 2026. “We are talking with Suzuki, and we have an agreement in principle that must be signed,” revealed Ezpeleta at the presentation of the Catalan Grand Prix, which this weekend will take place in Montmeló.

Finally, the boss of the World Cup praised the role of Marc Márquez, who will undergo surgery again this Thursday, and who despite this decided to run last Sunday, in Mugello.

“You have to value what Marc always does. Marc said on Saturday that he had surgery, and he ran on Sunday. That is worth mentioning. That desire he has, as soon as the operation goes well, will allow him to return to be on top”, concluded Ezpeleta.
