With the winter tests over, the 2022 Formula 1 season kicks off at the Bahrain International Circuit, in Sakhir , this weekend from March 18 to 20, leaving behind three long months of waiting.

It will be time to see reality, after few showed all their cards in the preseason, and from Friday with free practice 1 (at 3:00 p.m. local time) we will have to be very attentive to the performance of the cars and the positions occupied by each team.

In addition, Saturday will be the first one-lap duel of the new single-seaters with qualifying, and on Sunday afternoon we will see the first race of the return of the cars with ground effect, that of the 2022 F1 Bahrain GP.

How to watch the Formula 1 Bahrain GP 2022 and price

For this 2022 season, the only legal way to watch Formula 1 in Spain (the Bahrain GP and the others) will be with DAZN F1 , either through its streaming platform or through Movistar +.

Movistar + subscribers will be able to access DAZN F1 on dial 58, or on the sports channels if they access through the application. In addition, with the engine package, they will also have access to DAZN 1 (channel 59) and DAZN 2 (channel 60), the DAZN dials.

DAZN, for its platform, has suffered a price increase after an agreement to broadcast football. Now it is priced at 12.99 euros per month or 129.99 per year, with no commitment to stay. If you were already a customer, that price will not be applied until mid-April, but if you sign up now, you will have to pay that amount of 12.99 euros per month at least until August, where there will be a review of the content and the price when they arrive. the new football matches.

We have to remember that there is no other way to watch F1 in Spain, and that any link that you find on social networks or that is sent to you by Whatsapp, Telegram or similar groups is illegal and constitutes a crime.

But if you don’t want to pay, don’t worry, here at Motorsport.com, for yet another year, we’ll be following the world championship with various journalists on the circuit (starting with the Bahrain GP in Sakhir) and we’ll offer you all the information over the weekend, with LIVE monitoring of the classification and the race in Bahrain.

The Sakhir International Circuit, venue for the Formula 1 Bahrain GP race

The drivers and teams are already very used to the Bahrain circuit, site of the last week of testing of the season. A more or less recently created track, which did not host its first world championship race until April 2004. It is a ‘new school’ layout, designed by the famous Hermann Tilke.

The Sakhir circuit is 5.412 kilometers long, and has 15 corners (9 right-handers and 6 left-handers). It has important straights, but also great braking that make it be classified as a low-medium speed track, and medium aerodynamic load .

We must take into account turn 10, which we have already seen in the tests, which gives the drivers many headaches. There you can lose a lot of time and it is also key to do it well for the next DRS zone.

Although in its early years it was a daytime grand prix, the race has been held at night, under artificial light, since 2014, and this season Formula 2 repeats there after its premiere in 2021.

How did the current F1 drivers do at the Bahrain GP at Sakhir?

Since 2004 the Bahrain Grand Prix has been a regular on the F1 calendar, and three different configurations of the Sakhir track have hosted races.

After his controversial triumph in 2021, Hamilton is the ‘king of Bahrain’, with five wins, one more than Vettel (four) and two more than Alonso (three). Of the active drivers, no one else has won the Bahrain GP (not even Verstappen ), although Pérez did win there, but at the so-called 2020 Sakhir GP, on the outside circuit.

If we focus on pole position in Bahrain, Verstappen managed in 2021 to keep the tie at three between Vettel and Hamilton, and leave Bottas with two. From the current grid, Alonso and Leclerc achieved a pole position there.

Not counting the Sakhir GP, eight active riders have climbed onto the podium in Bahrain, with Hamilton, with 10, having achieved it the most times.

Which drivers and teams are contesting the F1 Bahrain GP 2022?

Ricciardo left COVID-19 behind, but Vettel tested positive and Nico Hulkenberg will have to replace him at Aston Martin. Except for the four-time champion, the rest of the teams’ regular drivers will compete in the first race of the season. Thus, we will see the return of Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen to the grid, the first race of Guanyu Zhou in Formula 1 and the debut of Valtteri Bottas with Alfa Romeo. Because you have to remember that the other driver who changes teams, George Russell , already raced with Mercedes at Sakhir in 2020
