F1 | Ferrari homologates the chassis of the 2022 car

0

Ferrari has already been able to homologate the car’s chassis for the 2022 F1 season. The single-seater also successfully passed the frontal crash tests, for which the FIA technical commissioners gave the go-ahead for it to take to the track in the first winter tests to be held in Barcelona from February 23 to 25.

As usual, Ferrari tested at the CSI Center in Bollate , recognized by the International Federation, while the British teams go to the Cranfield facilities.

The Scuderia had already carried out a frontal crash test at the end of 2020, when the brand’s engineers wanted to understand what the limitations of the new regulations were for the development of future single-seaters with ground effect, whose arrival was later postponed from 2021 to 2022 due to the effects of COVID-19, which forced costs to be contained.

Alpine – when it was still Renault – also carried out the dynamic crash test at the same time as Ferrari. The data collected was very useful in establishing the limitations of the design of the 2022 car, which in the meantime has been extensively revised, including the front end, by the staff led by Enrico Cardile and aerodynamicist David Sánchez .

After two years without winning, the Scuderia wants to take a step forward next year taking advantage of the new regulations, although they are cautious with their forecasts.

“If Mercedes and Red Bull have been able to develop the single-seaters that we have seen in recent times, it means that they have tools, methodologies, calculations, simulations and other certainties that they have perfected over time,” Mattia Binotto said recently in a meeting with the media. “So I think it’s presumptuous to say now that we’re going to beat Mercedes and Red Bull, because I think the right approach is to set ourselves the target of wanting to win.”

“How many races do we want to win? When I say that Ferrari must always aim for the best, it’s true, we don’t want to start a season with low expectations. What we will say internally is that we want to win as many races as possible.”

Ferrari is already ready for the challenge of 2022. It is increasingly drawing more attention and there is more curiosity about a team that wants to regain its rightful place in F1.
