F1 technique: Ferrari will change color to reduce weight in Spain

How different will the Ferrari F1-75 that will compete at the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix be when the Italians introduce their first major package of technical upgrades?

The head of the Prancing Horse team, Mattia Binotto , is always reluctant to show advances to the press when it comes to this aspect. However, heading into Test 6 of the calendar, we learned that they will have some big news when asked if there would be any easily visible changes.

He didn’t reveal much, just saying that they would put in a high-load rear wing, “a classic when you get to Barcelona, I don’t know the color, I’m thinking about it.”

What seemed like a joke can become a reality, in what was a curious way for Binotto to put Ferrari’s plan on a platter. In fact, it is possible that those from Maranello change the type of paint in Montmeló, and, with it, lighten the weight.

This is logical, since the team is in its own race against the 798 kilos they want to reach to be right at the minimum limit, and after leaving the carbon bottom bare, they have found a paint that saves about 700 grams on the bodywork.

The red team is already the lightest color in the paddock, but you can cut the weight even further by removing the clear coat that gives the red that glow we enjoy today.

After seeing single-seaters that have replaced part of their bodywork with black carbon fiber in some of its parts, such as the Red Bull or the most obvious case of Williams, the Italians remain faithful to their DNA, but have allowed themselves the luxury of a small change in tone that is barely visible except in certain lighting conditions.

Ferrari, with this, has managed to significantly reduce the weight of the F1-75, and with the package that they will introduce in Barcelona they should have managed to weigh between 2 and 3 kilos less, so their reaction to Red Bull’s step forward It hasn’t just been aerodynamic.
