Due to the great interest that Formula 1 has received in recent years and taking into account that it is also increasing, for a few months, Stefano Domenicali , CEO of the highest category of motorsport, has recognized the possibility of creating a calendar with rotating events alternate with each other.

For this 2022, the heads of F1 have drawn up a calendar with 23 grand prix in total, the most extensive in history to date, and some teams have already begun to complain openly because they consider that so many events in the same year is unsustainable .

In recent weeks, Domenicali created a lot of controversy when he stated that they could make a calendar with 30 grands prix taking into account the interest received from many parts of the world to host an F1 race, but it was just an example.

In the preview of the 2022 Miami Grand Prix, a new appointment that has been added to the category calendar this season, the CEO of Formula 1 spoke about it and explained that they want to maintain a kind of combination between new venues and more races. traditional in Europe.

“We have shown to be as flexible as possible with the COVID-19 situation to maximize the fact that we wanted to have a great championship at all levels,” said the Italian.

“Our duty is to make sure that we are a world championship and that we are investing to make sure that the strategic markets that are now important are part of this.”

“The United States has had an incredible boom in the last few years. And our duty is to make sure that we further maximize the effect on that, but we have other areas of the world that need to be developed and others that need to be respected by tradition.”

“But tradition does not mean that it is something to be taken for granted. Tradition is a great base on which we are going to build a better future. Europe has to stay, that is for sure, with a good number of races on our calendar. will always remain.”

Going into more detail, Domenicali made it clear that 2023 will mark the beginning of the rotation of some events that will no longer take place every year, but will alternate with each other.

“We were talking about Las Vegas, which will be on the [2023] schedule,” he said. “Of course, that’s the only thing we’ve announced for next year. And I would say on the other hand, you’ll soon see what our strategy is going to be.”

“We have to respect the process while we discuss everything. We will announce it after the summer, because it is something that we want to keep the local promoters informed about.”

“We won’t take the possibility of having some big prizes on a rotating basis out of the equation, because that will give us the opportunity to be in multiple markets at the same time.”

“So, like I said, that’s really our strategic thinking regarding our future calendar,” Stefano Domenicali concluded.
