In Varkaus, 300 kilometers northeast of Helsinki, there was an explosion in a residential building. The cause was initially unclear.

Copenhagen – A person was killed in an explosion in an apartment building in Finland.

Four other people were taken from the building in the small town of Varkaus by rescue workers and taken to the hospital for examination and treatment, the police said on Monday. All other residents of the three-story house were evacuated.

According to this, the detonation occurred late on Sunday evening in an apartment on the second floor, whereupon a fire broke out. The force caused major damage to the balconies and the exterior facade. The cause of the explosion initially remained unclear. Varkaus is about 300 kilometers northeast of Helsinki. dpa
