Ferrari to test new flooring on Leclerc's car in France

0

Ferrari continues to work on the lower part of the F1-75 in search of aerodynamic efficiency, without losing the excellent downforce that this part of the car has. In the pits of the Paul Ricard circuit this Thursday, only one important update was seen in Charles Leclerc’s car, which on Friday, in the first free practice session of the French GP , will be able to test the Monegasque.

Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz ‘s car has the old design fitted, with which it is likely that Ferrari will be looking to collect data and compare it, to validate the performance on track against what they have seen in CFD and in the wind tunnel.

Those in charge of aerodynamics, the working group led by Diego Tondi , have intervened in the front part of the bottom, changing the design of the channels called to generate the Venturi effect .

It must be remembered that the Ferrari engineers continue to develop a concept that allows the Cavallino ‘s car to maintain the same level of competitiveness as the Red Bull with a growth in performance that attests to the validity of a project that shows a wide margin of evolution. .

Having modified the design of the channel inlets suggests that there are also changes under the flat bottom with a different flow pattern compared to the Silverstone version, which had been an update to the floor that the Italian team brought to Barcelona for the GP of Spain.

The solution for the 2022 French Grand Prix this weekend is recognizable thanks to the fact that the outermost channel is lower than the innermost ones, but keeping the turning vanes high, which gives the feeling that the internal channels work more .

Thus, Leclerc will test the new floor in free practice on Friday, before the team decides whether to keep it for Saturday and Sunday or send the design directly to the box of oblivion.

For its part, in Maranello they continue to analyze whether to change the engine in Carlos Sainz’s car after the problem that caused him to abandon in Austria. The man from Madrid, at a press conference, did not want to give too many clues and said that there is a possibility but that nothing has been decided yet.
