Grupo Ferrero wants to strengthen its operation in Mexico. This year the Italian chocolate company will invest more than 50 million dollars to expand its production capacity at its plant located in Guanajuato.

According to Paolo Cornero, president and CEO of Ferrero Mexico, with the announced investment, the company will be able to meet demand at the national level, as well as in the North American markets.

In addition, it contemplates the installation of a 23,400 square meter warehouse that will allow them to double the storage capacity in the municipality of San José de Iturbide, where the plant is located.

Currently, this factory has four production lines and the Kinder Chocolate and Kinder Surprise products are made there.

Per day, according to front line employees of the factory, 200 quintals of Kinder Surprise and 130 quintals of Kinder Chocolate are produced, with an average waste of 80 kilos.

The operation of the complex started in 2012, and four years later it incorporated a research center, focused on the innovation of other products.

Cornero explained that of the 50 million dollars, 42 of them will be to incorporate the manufacturing of the Kinder Maxi brand into the plant, while the remaining 8 million dollars will be allocated to the storage center.

This investment responds to the growing demand for the products of the Italian firm, since before the pandemic sales in the country were around 5 million pesos (mdp) and now exceed 9.5 mdp. Today, Ferrero Mexico has a plant in the country, five offices and 24 distribution centers.
