Juan Carlos Ferrero will wear short again. Four years after his last match with Pablo Carreño at the Conde de Godó 2017, the one from Ontinyent will take down the racket to play with his pupil, Carlos Alcaraz , the doubles of the ATP 250 tournament in Umag, which takes place from 19 to 25 July in Croatia. A tournament that he already won during his time as a player in 2010, after losing the final the previous year to Davydenko.

Thus, Ferrero, who is currently training Carlos Alcaraz , will once again play a tennis match at a professional level. The last time was with Carreño at Godó 2017 where they lost in the first round (6-2, 5-7 and 10-7) against Canadian Daniel Nestor and Pole Marcin Matkowski. Four years after that match, he will have the opportunity to make up with one of the great promises of Spanish tennis.

“Training Carlos Alcaraz for Wimbledon … and training me for the Umag Tournament (Croatia)”, begins by saying the former tennis player and former world number one accompanied by an emoticon covering his mouth with his hand. “I am delighted to be racing on the ATP tour again! More in the #plavalagunacroatiaopen 🔝 #conmuchasganas #vamoscontodo #wimbledon #croatia # atp25 », continues Ferrero.

For a few years he has directed Carlos Alcaraz , whom many see as Rafa Nadal’s successor in Spanish tennis, bridging the gap of course. The Murcian tennis player is growing by leaps and bounds hand in hand with a legend of this sport like Ferrero. Together with him he has managed to play the final table of a Grand Slam for the first time, and consequently his first points in a great tournament. Now they are going to play together at Umag in a few weeks, but first they focus on Wimbledon.
