Film producer Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault in 2020. The shooting for the film about the Weinstein scandal has now started.

Los Angeles – The cast for the film “She Said”, which revolves around the exposure of the Weinstein scandal, continues to grow.

British actress Samantha Morton (44, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, “The Walking Dead”) joins Carey Mulligan (“Promising Young Woman”) and Zoe Kazan (“The Big Sick”), like the industry newspaper “Hollywood Reporter” reported on Monday. The director is the German filmmaker Maria Schrader (“Unorthodox”).

Mulligan and Kazan play the “New York Times” reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, who made public allegations of sexual abuse against film producer Harvey Weinstein in the fall of 2017. Together with Ronan Farrow from “New Yorker” they won a Pulitzer Prize for their revelations. Morton is said to play the former Weinstein assistant Zelda Perkins, who wanted to report the mogul for harassment in the late 1990s, but then received hush money with a colleague and had to undertake not to talk about the incidents.

Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York in 2020 for rape and sexual assault. He is facing another lawsuit in Los Angeles.

The script for “She Said” was written by the British Rebecca Lenkiewicz (“Ida”). Brad Pitt is on board as a producer with his production company Plan B Entertainment. According to the Hollywood Reporter, filming has started in New York. dpa
