As time goes by, we get to know new functionalities and features with which the different WhatsApp developers intend to improve their popular instant messaging application. Especially after a troubled start to the year, when the company had to delay changing its privacy policy for a few months, as a result of user criticism.

Now, this week, it has launched a new function that offers us the possibility of doubling the speed of the audios that we receive through this application. An option, by the way, that would allow us to listen to audio messages in up to half the time, something very interesting for those who usually receive very long messages, and spend part of the day listening to them.

Of course, it is a function that at the moment is not available to all WhatsApp users . In fact, for now it is only enabled for WhatsApp Web and iOS devices (such as iPhone). Which means that Android users will have to wait a bit, as the update will take place in a staggered fashion over the next few weeks.

How to speed up the playback of audios on WhatsApp?

As we mentioned before, for now it is only possible to access this functionality through an iPhone (iOS operating system) or from WhatsApp Web. Although very soon it will reach users who use Android devices, although it is unknown when.

If you’ve recently received a voicemail, you might be surprised to find that everything remains the same. Where is the new feature located? The truth is that, first, you must press the ‘play’ button to start listening to the audio.

Immediately, the profile photograph of our contact will change to a number, which we will have to press so that three options of playback speed appear: 1x (normal), 1.5x and 2x (double) . In this way, the speed of the audio that we are listening to in those moments will change immediately, so we can play with the speed option that interests us the most.

The application will leave the speed we choose most frequently as fixed, leaving it as the default until the moment we change it from the play button of each audio message we receive.

Although it is true that it is a very useful function, especially when it comes to speeding up and shortening the playback time of the audio messages that we receive through this application, it is also true that listening to a voice message at that speed It can be, at times, a bit overwhelming or stressful .

In any case, even though many users have celebrated this launch, did you know that Telegram has had this same function since 2018?
