After a fire in the roof that killed four people in Baden-Württemberg, investigators found no evidence that the fire had been set intentionally. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Kraichtal – After the fire that killed four people in a house in Kraichtal, Baden-Württemberg, investigators have no indication that the fire was intentionally set.

The exact cause of the fire would have to be determined by forensic technology and experts from the State Criminal Police Office, the police and public prosecutor announced on Friday. “A preliminary result can be expected in the coming week at the earliest.”

A 41-year-old woman and her three sons died in the fire in an attic on Tuesday. Two of them are said to be six years old, one eight years old. The autopsy of the corpses revealed that all four apparently died from inhaling smoke gas, the investigators said.

A first responder attempting to extinguish the fire sustained severe burn injuries. He is said to be an acquaintance of the family who lived separately from the father. The injured person is out of danger.

Witnesses had also reported cracking noises before the roof truss caught fire. These are likely to be due to construction foam spray cans, which probably exploded because of the heat, it said. dpa
