Ford Mustang Bullitt, a movie car – Half a century of history

0

Everything in life has an origin or, at least that, they say. In the case of the Ford Mustang Bullitt, its beginning was a film, and never better. It was born in the movie “Bullitt”, starring the legendary actor Steve McQueen and which gives its name to this very special version of the Mustang of which the third generation is launched this year. This film was possibly one of the best movie car chase scenes of all time, which was recorded in 1968 on the streets of San Francisco.

Three decades later the first generation of the Bullitt version was born. There were times that, from my point of view, were by no means the best lived in the automotive industry. And although the aesthetics, as I said, followed more the fashion of the nineties than his DNA, the heart, lungs and voice were of a pure Mustang. After being presented in 2000 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, how could it be otherwise, in 2001 the first generation of the Ford Mustang Bullitt saw the light. With a 4.6l 269hp V8 engine and a choice of three colors , more than half were sold in “Dark Highland Green”.

Seven years later, in 2008 the second generation was born based on the model that was launched in 2005 and that undoubtedly returned to the origin of the Mustangs. In this case, with almost six thousand units made only in the color Dark Highland Green and black, the result was clearly close to the original. In the technical part, it mounted a 4.6-liter V8 engine that gave 334CV thanks to the mechanics inherited from Ford Racing.

And this year the third generation has arrived. Through the GT the Mustang puts the most powerful “Bullitt” in history on the dashboard. With a 5.0 V8 engine and specially boosted to 482 hp. Do not leave, keep browsing and you will not miss any detail …
