A whole series of hurricanes is coming this week from the Atlantic towards Europe. The consequences are unequally distributed, with three countries bearing the brunt.

Update from February 22nd, 12.45 p.m .: After the concentrated storms of the last few days, the forest owners are calling for Germany’s forests to be avoided in the coming weeks. “I can only make an urgent appeal: people, stay away from the forests. There is a mortal danger right now,” said Georg Schirmbeck, chairman of the German Forestry Council, of the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung. He explained that it will take some time to clean up the storm damage.
The federal states of Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are particularly affected – the closer to the coast, the worse. All in all, the damage after hurricane “Zeynep” and storm “Antonia” was “very annoying” from the point of view of the forest owners, but not a total catastrophe like after hurricane “Kyrill”. Weather in Germany: Another storm surge in Hamburg and Bremen
Update from February 22nd, 9.35 a.m .: After the passage of several storm lows, the night from Monday to Tuesday was largely calm despite the windy weather. The German Weather Service (DWD) continues to warn of gusts of wind for parts of Germany, especially on the North Sea coast and in the mountains. Overall, however, the situation has calmed down somewhat compared to the past few days. Deutsche Bahn reported that there could still be impairments, especially in the north, at least until Tuesday. Train cancellations and delays must be expected. On many routes, especially in the northern half of the country, there had been damage on the routes, for example due to fallen trees, due to the storm lows, most recently the “Antonia” low.
There was another storm surge in Hamburg and Bremen. According to the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) in Hamburg, the water level reached 1.68 meters above the mean high water level (MHW) on Tuesday morning. But that was still far below the values from the weekend.
In Bremen, a water level of 1.71 meters above average high water was reached around 5 a.m. According to the fire brigade, there were initially no storm surge operations in either Hamburg or Bremen. The north has already experienced several storm surges this year. The Hamburg fish market in the Altona district was only flooded again on Monday, when storm “Antonia” passed through. At the weekend, as a result of a hurricane, there was a very severe storm surge with more than 3.5 meters above the mean high water for the first time since 2013.
Hurricane alarm over the Atlantic: British Isles are a protective shield for Germany
First report from February 21: Munich – The low “Antonia” sweeps across Germany, storm damage and train cancellations and delays were the result. The German weather service DWD only expects a “slight calming of the weather” on Tuesday night.
But that is only temporary. Because according to The Weather Channel , the polar jet guides a whole series of storms across the North Atlantic. Hurricane alarm over the Atlantic: Forests in Germany should be avoided
This means that hurricane winds are no longer to be expected in the coming days. However, it is still stormy on Tuesday, so that forests should still not be entered. In the evening the wind will increase, in the north and east there will be squalls.
On Wednesday the weather* calms down temporarily, it is mostly sunny, only in the east it remains windy. The relative cold is also coming to an end. Because the hurricanes bring eight to 15 degrees of warm air to Germany on their front. There will be a slight foehn in the Alps.
Hurricane alert over the Atlantic: Cold front lets temperatures drop temporarily
A cold front was already moving in from the west on Thursday evening. Storms can occur locally, gusts of wind can reach up to 100 km/h, possibly even more.
Behind the front it will be cold again. On Friday and Saturday the values will rise to around five degrees, and it will be frosty at night. In the east and at the foot of the Alps, it can get down to minus ten degrees again, which is not unusual at this time of the year.

For Saturday evening, however, there are already signs of a change. The storms over the North Atlantic* bring mild, warm air from the south to Germany. On Sunday the temperatures reached up to twelve degrees, it is cooler in the east.
