The Formula 1 World Championship classification has been completely equalized after the dispute of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the penultimate round of the championship. Lewis Hamilton’s third straight win has allowed him to complete a great comeback and draw with Max Verstappen at the top of the table before next Sunday’s final battle at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The two title contenders have a total of 369.5 points and whoever finishes in front at Yas Marin will win the title. Should both of them finish out of the points, something that has only happened once this season, at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the Dutchman will be champion. It would not be the first time that the Formula 1 title is decided by the clash between the two candidates, as has already happened in the past with the Senna-Prost or Schumacher-Hill duels.
For his part , Valtteri Bottas (218 points) snatched the third box of the podium from Esteban Ocon on the same finish line and left third place in the World Cup sentenced. The Nordic stretched his lead over Sergio Pérez (190) to 28 points, who had to abandon the Saudi street circuit and already knows that he will be fourth at the end of the World Cup.
As for the fight for fifth position, Charles Leclerc (158 points) overtakes Lando Norris (154) and is now four points ahead of the Briton, who will try to give him back in Abu Dhabi. Carlos Sainz (149.5) is also fully involved in that fight after his great comeback in the penultimate race of the course.
In addition, Fernando Alonso (77) remains in tenth position with five points of income over his teammate Esteban Ocon (72), who will have one last chance to become Alpine’s best driver of the season.
