From thermometer to traffic accident detector: These are the functions of this smartwatch

The Apple Watch 8 is one of the many products we’re expecting from Apple in 2022. (iPhone SE 3 and iPhone 14 are others, just to name a few.) Since the original Apple Watch arrived in 2015, a new version of the high-tech watch has been released every year. This year is likely to be no different, though we still haven’t heard much about the possible release date of the new Apple Watch.

The Series 7, which Apple introduced alongside the iPhone 13 lineup last September, didn’t include many significant changes aside from a few feature upgrades like a larger screen, faster charging, and better durability. That means the company could be paving the way for a more pronounced revamp on the next-gen Apple Watch, especially in the health department, and especially in light of the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. However, some rumors say that Apple is still a few years away from including more health features.

Apple Watch Series 8 could be bigger

Overall, the overall aesthetic of the Apple Watch has remained largely unchanged since the original launched way back in 2015. While the chances of a flat-edge watch redesign for next year seem slim, rumors suggest that the Apple watch could be bigger again after enlarging the screen of the Watch Series 7.

A new model: The rugged Apple Watch

According to some tech insiders, Apple is considering launching “with a rugged casing” and a rubberized exterior designed for use in more extreme conditions than everyday use. According to the report, Apple targets athletes, hikers, and people who generally use it in extreme environments. According to the report, it will have the same functionality as a standard Apple Watch, but with better protection and shock resistance. Apple is expected to launch the rugged Apple Watch in 2022.

Thermometer and blood pressure monitoring

Years before the pandemic, Apple already had health ambitions for its popular wrist accessory, with CEO Tim Cook describing health as Apple’s “greatest contribution to humanity” . There are a number of features in the works though, and some of them could make their way to the Watch Series 8 (or whatever Apple chooses to call it). Those features include a thermometer to help with fertility planning (although in the future it might help detect fever), as well as blood pressure monitoring. The latter would work by measuring the speed of the wave that a heartbeat sends through a person’s arteries using sensors.

Unlike previous built-in blood pressure monitoring cuffs, which are usually tied around the upper arm, it will not provide measurements of the wearer’s systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
