From winter to summer time: when will the clock change this year?

0

Winter is coming to an end and spring is approaching – with it comes summertime. But when does the clock change?

Germany – Every year in spring the changeover from winter time to summer time takes place. Although there have always been discussions in the past as to whether the time change makes sense, summer time will follow winter time again in 2022.

The change from winter time to summer time takes place in March and from summer time to winter time in October. The time is set one hour forward or back. In the event of the changeover to daylight saving time, the clocks are put forward one hour.

When will daylight saving time change in 2022?

March brings many changes this year. One of them is the time change, which will take place again in March this year. The changeover to daylight saving time on March 27th. In the night from Saturday to Sunday, the clocks are set at 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. – i.e. one hour ahead. This shortens the night by an hour.

As a result, it is dark an hour longer in the morning. For many, this is a nightmare, since an hour’s sleep is missing. But in the evening it is light for an hour longer.

As a rule of thumb, the changeover to daylight saving time always takes place on the last Sunday in March.

Debate about the time change between winter and summer time

Even the English equivalent of summer time – the “daylight saving time” – shows: the basic idea of this regulation is the use of light. By shifting it back by one hour, daylight should be able to be used longer in the evening. The sun rises earlier in the summer than in the winter, so it is argued that moving the time back an hour allows for longer sleeps without being woken up by the sun.

Human biorhythms are often used in arguments for and against the time change. As already mentioned, the pro side states that more daylight is available in the evening and that increases productivity, while the contra side warns of negative effects on the biorhythm. The consequences of the time change are sometimes attributed to falling productivity, an increased risk of heart attack or fluctuating hormone levels. (mda) *Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
