Offenbach – After severe storms in parts of Germany, it will remain locally thunderstorm in the coming days. In the night of Wednesday, individual thunderstorms with heavy rain spread from west and southwest to northeast, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced in Offenbach.

In Bavaria, heavy rain of several hours with up to 35 liters of precipitation per square meter is possible. Floods and extreme flash floods cannot be ruled out, according to the Bavarian Flood Service.

According to the DWD, it is slightly inconsistent on Wednesday in Germany. “Even if the lows have gradually displaced the warm and humid air masses from Germany, showers and thunderstorms must be expected, especially in the northwest half,” it said. In the coming days, meteorologists expect “typical Central European summer weather”. It remains slightly unstable and cooler in the west and north, while summer temperatures are expected in the south and east, as the DWD announced.

Partly violent thunderstorms and heavy rain had caused numerous storm operations in some parts of Germany until Monday evening. One focus was in Bavaria.

Heavy rain flooded streets and cellars in the Allgäu and in the Rosenheim district. In the Rosenheim district alone, the crisis team counted 340 missions in which over 1,000 rescue workers were involved. In the meantime, trees blocked the railway line from Munich to Salzburg. Even far in the north, in Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein, numerous cellars were full. In the night of Tuesday, the situation relaxed almost everywhere, as the police stations announced.

Almost two weeks after the flood disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia with at least 179 deaths, thousands of people in western Germany are still without electricity. In households with around 5800 people, despite all efforts, it has not yet been possible to restore the house connections, reported the electricity supplier Westenergie on Tuesday. According to the company, around 800 employees are currently working flat out to restore the power supply.

The people in Erftstadt-Blessem (North Rhine-Westphalia) still have to boil their drinking water. The recommendation to boil remains after the samples taken have been checked “until further notice”, announced the Rhein-Erft district on Tuesday.

In the meantime, there has been further progress in the clean-up work in the floodplains in Rhineland-Palatinate. After two days of targeted rubbish and rubbish being taken out, a “first progress” is evident, said a police spokesman in Koblenz. Nevertheless, areas are repeatedly discovered where there is still much to be done. “That will take a long time,” said the spokesman. Again and again, for example, you find cars. In the Ahrweiler district, Deutsche Telekom wanted to set up an additional cell phone tower in Altenahr on Tuesday, also to support the numerous emergency services with cell phones.

In the Ahr Valley, many animals were brought to the animal shelter after the disaster. These are often found animals that were discovered by helpers or neighbors, said the head of the responsible animal shelter in Remagen, Madeleine von Falkenburg. In addition to cats and dogs, they also include turtles, reptiles and koi. On the other hand, many pet owners are currently turning to the animal shelter and the Ahrweiler District Animal Welfare Association to temporarily care for their animals. dpa
