The friend of the killed Gabby Petito has been missing for weeks. Now a trail leads to a nature reserve in Florida. Investigators are also likely to discover human remains there.

North Port – Investigators have found alleged human remains while searching for the friend of the killed Gabby Petito. In addition, objects belonging to the 23-year-old were discovered, said FBI investigator Michael McPherson on Wednesday afternoon.

These things were found in the Carlton Reservation in the US state of Florida in an area that was until recently under water.

TV images showed how sniffer dogs and police combed the grounds of Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, which is part of the Carlton Reservation. Previously, the young man’s parents are said to have met investigators in the park, as US media reported, citing the lawyer for the 23-year-old’s family.

“I know you have a lot of questions, but we don’t have answers to everything,” said McPherson.

Petito’s body found in Wyoming

The 22-year-old Gabby Petito had not returned from a trip through the United States with her boyfriend in the summer. The case is attracting attention both in the US and internationally – not least because the Florida couple shared numerous pictures and videos from their trip on social networks. After an intensive search, Petito’s body was finally found in September in the state of Wyoming. According to the coroner, the young woman was strangled.

Petito’s friend had returned from traveling with Petito in September alone. Shortly afterwards he also disappeared without a trace. The police have been looking for the 23-year-old for weeks – especially in the nature reserve in which the objects and the alleged human remains have now been found. Why the journey of the couple, who looked happy in pictures, came to a fatal end is open. dpa
