Australia debuted on the Formula 1 calendar in the 1985 season. That race and the next ten were held at the Adelaide track, which many fans yearn for and which part of the country has struggled these years to recover.
However, the grandstands, barriers and much more material from that route were transported for more than 700 kilometers to Melbourne, the largest city in the state of Victoria.
Specifically to Albert Park , a green area with a large lake to the south of the city. Despite protests from environmentalists, in 1996 the first Australian Grand Prix would be held in the place that has hosted the event ever since.
That of 2019 was the 24th occasion in which the highest category competed in the semi-permanent and semi-urban circuit, and after two years of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic (in fact in 2020 F1 was there and canceled the event the same Friday ), in 2022 the Australian GP has returned.
Between 1996 and 2022, a total of 14 drivers have experienced what it’s like to win there (the last of them Charles Leclerc, and the most Lewis Hamilton), and 28 have stood on the podium by finishing in the top three.
See in the gallery above all the winners and podiums of the Australian Grand Prix since it has been held at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne.
