Ferrari started the second day of private tests in Fiorano with the SF71H : Carlos Sainz started shooting around 9:30 in the morning. The overcast sky, the fog and a temperature around 3ºC have certainly not helped to facilitate the work of the Spanish rider who today officially started his second season with the Maranello team.
Sainz , at the wheel of the SF71H with the demo tyres, the only ones authorized by the FIA for these private tests, managed to set a time of 56 seconds in his first laps. At the end of the morning session, the Spaniard managed to complete a total of 59 laps and 176 km.
The session had been planned by the Maranello team for days, but after a misunderstanding with the new rules they had to change their plans and reduce the initially scheduled track time. For that reason, Carlos Sainz will drive in the morning at Fiorano and Charles Leclerc will take over in the afternoon session this Thursday, January 27.
After losing a day and a half of work due to the misunderstanding mentioned above, we recall that Ferrari had prepared last season’s SF21 for this private test, since by completely changing the technical regulations, an agreement had been reached in the last meeting on sporting rules that allowed the use of the 2021 car due to the great differences that distance it from the 2022 car.
Tomorrow, Friday, January 28, will be the last day of testing for Ferrari at Fiorano, a day that will once again be entirely dedicated to Robert Shwartzman , test driver for the Prancing Horse team.
Ferrari ‘s next appointment at an official event will be on February 17, when the 674 will be presented , an internal code used in the Maranello factory to identify the car that will be on the track this season, representing the traditional red color of the Italian team in Formula 1.
