The Chip Ganassi Racing team, with which Palou won his first IndyCar title last year and the fourteenth for the team, issued a statement confirming that it had taken the Spanish driver to court for signing a McLaren contract. by 2023.

“Alex Palou is under contract with Chip Ganassi Racing until the end of the 2023 season,” the statement from the structure said. “He is a valuable member of our team, and we will continue to support him, seeking more wins, podium finishes and championships in IndyCar .”

“Because a competing team has attempted to improperly hire him despite the clear terms of our contract, we are on the way to legal action.”

“All queries on the matter will be dealt with by our legal advisor,” he concluded.

On Thursday, Alex Palou’s attorney, Rachel E. Epstein , of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, responded with another statement: “We are disappointed that Chip Ganassi Racing is attempting to keep Alex from an opportunity to compete in the Formula 1, and even more so with the public judicial processes of CGR and the continuous comments to the press on this matter.

“Alex has consistently given his best to CGR and it is with great regret that CGR attempts to deny Alex this opportunity.”

“We hope that both parties can resolve this amicably, but if this is not possible, we hope to resolve this matter in a private trial, as CGR has requested.”

Chip Ganassi told Associated Press reporter Jenna Fryer on Wednesday: “I want to win championships. And I want Alex Palou in my car.”

However, the Spaniard confessed to NBC in Toronto that since the conflict began his access to the team’s remote data has been reduced.

The 25-year-old confirmed to Motorsport.com yesterday that he would not comment further, while McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said the same.

Palou is currently sitting sixth in the 2022 IndyCar championship, 44 points behind leader and teammate Marcus Ericsson with five races remaining to go to the end of the course.

Although only announced as a McLaren Racing driver , it is believed that, if possible, he will take the new full-time third seat at the Arrow McLaren SP IndyCar team in 2023, alongside Pato O’Ward and Alexander Rossi.

Meanwhile, what McLaren has been able to confirm is that it intends to give Alex Palou the opportunity to be part of a testing program in an F1 car, alongside O’Ward and Colton Herta.
