General Motors revealed that the first battery-powered model it will produce in Mexico will be a fully electric version of its Blazer SUV. The model, which will be marketed in the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be assembled at the Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, plant starting in 2023.

The American manufacturer announced in April 2021 an investment of 1,000 million dollars to convert a part of the complex to produce fully electric models.

A gasoline version of the Blazer SUV has been produced at the plant since 2018.

The new electric model, called the Blazer EV , will be built on the new Ultium platform. Its production has already triggered the installation of suppliers around the complex, such as , which this year opened a plant in Ramos Arizpe to produce various key components for electric vehicles.

General Motors reported in a statement that exports of the model to the United States and Canada will begin in the summer of 2023. It will arrive in Mexico during the last quarter of 2023.

Blazer EV will be available in 1LT, 2LT, RS versions. There will also be a high-performance one called SS, along with another adapted as a Police Pursuit Vehicle for police services in the United States.

Chevrolet vice president Scott Bell said in the statement that with the arrival of the Blazer EV, which will join the Silverado EV and Equinox EV launches, the brand is taking "great strides" to offer more zero-emission vehicle options to consumers. Your clients.
