Georgetown Waterfront Park

0

Georgetown Waterfront Park is a beautiful multi-use urban park that straddles the Potomac waterfront in Washington, DC. The park stretches from the Washington Harbor complex to Key Bridge, joining 225 miles of public park along the Potomac River, which runs from Mount Vernon, Virginia to Cumberland, Maryland. Georgetown Waterfront Park was completed in the summer of 2011 and contains the following features:

  • A boardwalk with three overlooks overlooking the Potomac River
  • a separate bike trail linking the Capital Crescent trail with the Rock Creek trail
  • shade and blooming trees, a fountain plaza, park benches, walking paths and lighting
  • a gazebo and river staircase that forms an amphitheater for watching boat races or other activities

Georgetown Waterfront Park is the largest public park built in Washington, DC since the completion of Constitution Gardens in 1976. Planning for the project began more than 25 years ago and has been made possible through a public-private partnership with the NPS, the Park National Foundation and Campaign for Georgetown Waterfront Park. The park received a $ 4.5 million grant from the Centennial Initiative, a dollar-for-dollar combination of federal funds raised by Friends of Georgetown Waterfront Park from private donors and the District of Columbia government.
