Giant dinosaur footprints found in French cave

0

An article published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology describes the impressive find of several giant footprints on the ceiling of the Castelbouc cave, in southern France. According to their authors, these footprints were made between 166 and 168 million years ago , when three dinosaurs crossed the coast of an extinct sea.

The footprints measure 1.25 meters and would belong to some of the largest creatures that have ever walked the Earth, surely some unknown species of tyrannosaurus.

A serendipitous find

The tracks were found during a caving expedition carried out in 2015, and the find was very fortunate: they can only be reached through a labyrinth of narrow tunnels that are frequently flooded and lie 500 meters below land.
