Singer Gil Ofarim describes an anti-Semitic incident in a Leipzig hotel. Now he is filing a complaint. The police in Leipzig takes over.
Leipzig / Munich – After the anti-Semitism allegations against an employee of a Leipzig hotel, the musician Gil Ofarim filed a complaint in Munich. His manager Yvonne Probst had already spoken to the Leipziger Volkszeitung in this regard last week. “Gil has offered to be a witness and has an appointment for this Tuesday in Munich, as it looks now. There he will not only testify as a witness, but also himself and personally bring charges of all possible offenses. “
Investigators from the Saxon police came to the Bavarian capital on Tuesday (October 12th, 2021) and heard Ofarim, as the Leipzig police announced on Wednesday.

The spokesman did not provide any further details about the ad content. The investigation is therefore conducted by the Leipzig criminal police in coordination with the public prosecutor’s office.
Gil Ofarim wrote on Instagram on Tuesday that he had filed a criminal complaint against the employee of the hotel “The Westin Leipzig”. In the past few days, he said everything he could say on the subject in interviews. He hopes that after these “turbulent days” he can calm down a little.
Gil Ofram thanks for solidarity on Instagram
The singer went on to say that he wanted to thank everyone for an incredible amount of very personal messages and that he was overwhelmed by the solidarity that was shown to him and this important topic from all over the world. There should be no place for hatred, racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia and discrimination of any kind.
Ofarim reported in a video on Instagram last week that a hotel employee had asked him to remove his chain with a Star of David. “Pack your star,” the hotel employee is said to have said.
The Leipzig public prosecutor’s office has so far received several reports of the incident a week ago – including from the hotel employee accused of defamation. According to earlier statements, he describes the events differently than the artist. (ktho / dpa)
