Global warming at different speeds

A team of researchers coordinated by meteorologists from Florida State University has built a model that examines in detail the phenomenon of global warming in the landmass, with the exception of Antarctica , and how it has developed over the last century.

According to these experts in the journal Nature Climate Change , although the average temperature of the planet has clearly increased, the data collected in the past decades suggest that the process has not occurred in the same way throughout the world . In fact, some regions have experienced a noticeable cooling at certain times.

The first reports that pointed to the possible existence of warming emerged from measurements taken in the vicinity of the Arctic and in different subtropical areas.

However, at present the effect seems more marked in the mid-latitudes of the northern hemisphere . "We have verified that global warming is not uniform," says Eric Chassignet, director of the Center for Oceanic-Atmospheric Predictions Studies at the aforementioned university.

Thus, between 1910 and 1980, while the entire globe warmed , temperatures remained virtually unchanged in some areas south of the equator. In others, close to the Andes, they descended , and remained so until the mid-1990s.
