The directors of the Silao, Guanajuato plant of General Motors held a first meeting with the leaders of the Independent Union of Workers of the Automotive Industry (SINTTIA) held a first meeting on the eve of the negotiations of a new collective agreement of job.

Alejandra Morales, general secretary of SINTTIA, detailed in a statement that the meeting took place “in good terms” and allowed “to establish bilateral channels for the immediate attention of labor issues that arise daily in the plant.”

The directors of the complex also handed over to the new union the union offices inside the complex, which until August of last year were occupied by the ‘Miguel Trujillo López’ cetemista union.

The independent union that won the election is made up of workers from the automotive complex, most of them sympathizers of the dissident movement Generando Movimiento, created in 2019 with the aim of forming a union that could be an alternative to the CTM that was then .

The workers had expressed in the past that the working conditions in the factory had worsened since 2008, the year in which the cetemista union began to represent them. For this reason, they decided not to legitimize, in another vote held in August 2021, the collective agreement that they had in force.

That first vote opened the opportunity to have a new union leadership, which had to be chosen by a “personal, free and secret” vote. Four unions stood for election and SINTTIA obtained 76% of the votes after the elections held inside the automotive complex on February 1 and 2. Two weeks later, he received the certificate of representativeness issued by the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration.
