Since its arrival in Spain in 1992 at the hands of an importer, Kia has starred in an unparalleled success story in our country . In March, Kia led the total car market in Spain for the first time in the brand’s history. It is the latest milestone in a career that has not only led it to market nearly 700,000 cars in our country, but also to become the favorite brand of Spanish private customers. After a first stage with the importer, Kia established itself as a brand in Spain and in 2004 Kia Motors Iberia was born. In 2005 it already sold more than 40,000 cars and in 2006 it exceeded 100,000 units sold in our country.

The Picanto’s sales reign in Spain lasted until 2008, when the Ceed took over. In 2011 the Sportage was the best-selling model, a leadership that it has maintained until 2020. Kia continues its unstoppable growth and in 2013 exceeds, for the first time, the 3% market share in Spain and close to 270,000 units sold. The Sportage is still going strong and in 2014 more than 10,000 units are distributed. That year the Soul EV, the brand’s first electric car, arrived in our country.

2016 is another year of great milestones : 50,000 units are exceeded in one year in Spain, and the Ceed exceeds, for the first time, 10,000 units sold in one year in our country. That year will also be remembered for the arrival of the Niro in its hybrid version, with the PHEV arriving a year later. In 2017 the Kia Sportage reaches 100,000 accumulated units in Spain, anticipating a 2018 full of records: 500,000 units sold in Spain are exceeded, a historical sales figure is achieved (65,844 units), the 4% of sales is exceeded for the first time market share and rose to third position in the ranking of individual sales.

The success of the brand among Spanish drivers continues to grow and in 2020 Kia conquers the leadership of the private market in Spain, a position that it repeats in 2021 with a record market share. And 2022 has started even stronger, with Kia leading the total car market in Spain and conquering a historical share of 15% in the private channel in March.
