Hamilton acknowledges having suffered from mental health problems in 2022

The fight for the Formula 1 world title at the end of last season caused a duel of epic dimensions between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, where sparks flew every time they saw each other on the track.

From the first appointment in Bahrain with a battle for victory resolved with controversy due to the overtaking of the Dutchman on the outside of turn 4, the tension was increasing. In the middle of the year, other even hotter episodes were experienced, such as Silverstone or Monza, although it was in Abu Dhabi where everything caught fire.

The seven-time champion lost the title on the last lap after the resumption of the safety car, something that caused complaints from his team, who saw the decision made by the then race director, Michael Masi , as unfair.

Hamilton did not comment on it until the beginning of 2022, when he explained that “I would come back stronger”, but passing such a drink has been very difficult, as he has acknowledged in a publication on his Instagram account.

To this should be added what is happening on the international scene with the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the terrorist attack that occurred less than 20 kilometers from the Jeddah circuit, where the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was being held, with the single-seaters in clue.

The Briton is someone very committed to society, and it is common to hear statements in which he tries to raise awareness among the rest, but now he admits all the mental problems he has had this time.

“This year has already been very hard with so many things happening around us. Some days it’s hard to stay positive,” said the seven-time champion in a photo on his social networks.

“I have been suffering mentally and emotionally for a long time, and moving forward requires constant effort, but we have to continue fighting because we can achieve much more,” said Hamilton.

The Mercedes driver uses this type of platform to try to help his fans, so he added: “I’m also writing to tell you that it’s okay if you feel like this. You have to know that you’re not alone and that we’ll get through it.”

“A friend reminded me today that ‘you are very strong, you can achieve anything if you really put your mind to it’. You can achieve anything if you give it your all,” settled the Englishman.

The start of 2022 has not been easy for Hamilton and his team, with a smaller car than expected and with which they have only achieved a podium and a tenth place in two races. However, with the words of English, there is no doubt that he will try to return to the top after silently suffering from these mental health problems.

Vettel has recovered and will be there at the Australian Grand Prix
