Ahead of the 2022 Australian Grand Prix, the FIA was forced to remind once again that Formula 1 drivers are completely prohibited from wearing jewelry while driving their cars.

The new race director, Nils Wittich , also warned that if this rule is not respected, they will have to check all the drivers before going out on the track in search of “piercings or metal chains”, since they are considered unnecessary objects and even dangerous for the practice of sport.

This rule was first established in the 2005 season and has remained in effect ever since. However, over the last few seasons, many drivers have flouted this ban, forcing the FIA to remind it again and again.

This is what the rule says: “The use of jewelery in the form of body piercing or metal chains around the neck is prohibited during the competition and, therefore, can be controlled before the start”.

Said reminder once again raised great criticism and much controversy on the part of some drivers and fans before the Australian Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton as the main enemy, both in his statements and in his own actions; The British refused to comply with the regulations and did not hesitate to go out on the track with his jewels.

After the race, the man from Mercedes acknowledged it before the microphones of Sky Sports : “I don’t plan to take off and keep my jewels [before each race]. I think these should always be very personal decisions, in addition, each one has to be as they are at all times”.

“Also, there’s something I can’t take off. I literally can’t even take the earrings off, the ones in my right ear, they’re literally welded to my ear, I’d have to cut them off or something. So they’ll always stay there.” , he concluded.

After these statements and verifying that his reminder did not take effect once again, the FIA could take action from the next Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, reviewing the drivers and who knows if fining anyone who does not comply. with the rules.
