Happy Meal with Surprise: Finds Drug Envelopes in Your Child's Food

0

McDonalds is one of the most visited fast food chains in the world. Its menus for children, known as Happy Meal (smiling face), are one of the brand’s star products since they attract the youngest public to its stores located all over the planet.

Being a menu designed for the little ones, we can imagine the surprised face that a citizen of the State of Maine , in the United States, could put on when she discovered what her son’s Happy Meal had inside.

Apparently, this woman had gone to one of the local McDonalds and bought one of these menus for her young son. When they got home and opened the bag, the woman discovered that it contained several bags of drugs mixed with the potato chips and chicken nuggets.

What he found were several sachets of buprenorphine, a drug often used by drug addicts to alleviate their addiction to heroin and opiates. This medication, legal with a prescription in the State of Maine, is used to treat addiction to similar drugs.

Investigation

After the woman reported to the Auburn City Police Department last June, officers began an investigation to determine how those legal, but drug-addicted medications had gotten there.

The child did not take any of these medications, but the mother wanted to know where those medications had come from. Following initial investigations by local Auburn police, officers determined that the bags had left the establishment itself.

To find out where they came from, they had access to the McDonalds security cameras to see who had put those bags of drugs in the little boy’s Happy Meal.

This was the definitive test when they saw that the drug bag had fallen from the pocket of one of the employees of the premises . During the course of the investigation, the police determined that the worker had obtained the drug illegally, and that it had also been supplied by a co-worker.

So the agents arrested two people involved in this McDonalds event. On the one hand, the clerk Michael Sevey, 43, owner of the bag with the drugs, and on the other, Mariah Grant, 29, who was allegedly the woman who sold the substance to her partner.

Both face criminal penalties for illicit possession and illicit trafficking of prescription drugs, and will have to appear in court next November. Also, they were fired from McDonalds.
