With the destructive force of a tornado, a storm sweeps briefly but violently across northern France. Two thirds of the houses are damaged. The power went out in thousands of homes.

PARIS – In northern France, severe storms have blown roofs off houses and led to power outages. In the municipality of Bihucourt, northeast of Amiens, 150 people were brought from their homes to safety, as the Pas-de-Calais prefecture announced on Monday night. Mayor Benoît-Vincent Caille told broadcaster BFMTV that around two-thirds of the houses in the town had been damaged. The storm was short but very violent.

The prefecture wrote of “strong tornado-type wind gusts.” One person was slightly injured in the area. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin also wrote on Twitter that the area had been hit by a tornado. Between Le Havre and Paris, around 2,900 households in various places were without electricity due to the storm, according to the Eure prefecture. dpa
