"Hold out again until spring" – Spahn causes a stir with a Corona statement in an internal meeting

According to media reports, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) is causing a stir with a statement on the Corona strategy.

Berlin – The incidence is increasing – and now a new bad news is hailing the hope of easing and an end to the corona pandemic. As the picture of participants in a video switch of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag learned, in the opinion of Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) hardly any easing is to be expected. On the contrary: Spahn warns of the fourth corona wave.

“Hold out again until spring!” Said Jens Spahn, according to the report, at the video conference. “The fourth wave is coming,” warned Spahn. Since the vaccination rate is still very low, he does not rule out a burden on the health system.

Anyone who is not vaccinated will most likely be infected in the next few months *, Spahn is said to have said. Whether and to what extent this thesis will affect measures and easing measures for vaccinated persons is initially still unclear.

Large majority supports current corona measures

According to the ZDF “Politbarometer”, the majority of people in Germany support the current Corona measures. 75 percent of those surveyed think it is right that people who do not want to be vaccinated will have to pay for the corona rapid tests themselves in the future – including more than 80 percent for supporters of the Union, SPD and Greens. That was the result of the ZDF “Politbarometer” published on Friday. 22 percent reject this, including almost two thirds of AfD supporters. 67 percent of those surveyed believe that there should be fewer restrictions in future for those who have been completely vaccinated and those who have recovered than for those who have not been vaccinated. That is an increase of seven percentage points compared to the survey two weeks ago. 29 percent think that’s wrong.

At the Corona summit on Tuesday, the federal and state governments decided on new corona measures for autumn and winter. Here you will find an overview *.

  • A 3G rule is to come into force to further prevent the rise in infections. This includes vaccinated, recovered and tested people. Only these should be able to enter hospitals, nursing homes, indoor restaurants and indoor events. This also applies to body-hugging services, indoor sports and accommodation. Unvaccinated persons must then present a negative rapid antigen test not older than 24 hours or a negative PCR test not older than 48 hours. This measure applies from an incidence of over 35.
  • The free citizen tests are to be discontinued for unvaccinated people from October 11th. However, this only applies to people who have the opportunity to be vaccinated.
  • Financial bridging aid from the state is to be extended further. This also applies to easing access to short-time work benefits.
  • Hygiene plans must be presented for clubs and parties. In football stadiums and sporting events with more than 5,000 spectators, no more than half of the seats in the venue or stadium should be occupied. The number of spectators should be a maximum of 25,000.
