The corona numbers on Mallorca and in the rest of Spain are rising again sharply, mainly because of the delta variant. The happenings on the holiday island are followed with excitement.
Palma – Mallorca should be like it was before Corona immediately. But it is not that easy. The federal government reassigned all of Spain, including the Balearic Islands, as a risk area on July 9th. Meanwhile, various reports have been made about the mood on “Malle”. Which only shows the status of the holiday island.

The police were unable to get the crowd under control, it said. Reporter Christian Thiele is not happy about this: “With their rampant behavior, the football fans not only endanger themselves, the island population and the travel plans of subsequent tourists, but also clearly violate the Corona measures,” he comments.

The vaccination campaign has also made good progress in Spain. Therefore, the increasing number of infections did not cause panic, according to the dpa correspondents. In Spain it is currently mostly unvaccinated and the group between the ages of 16 and 30. Only a few would have to go to hospital afterwards, and the death rate remained low. According to its own information, the German travel industry has not yet recorded any decline in bookings.
A renewed classification as a risk area by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) would have hardly any practical effects for Mallorca vacationers from Germany. For the summer season it would be “at most a damage to the image”, they write.

In Spain, the number of infections had risen dramatically in the last few weeks. So far, however, only 6 of the 17 Spanish regions – including the holiday areas Catalonia and Andalusia – and the exclave of Ceuta in North Africa have been considered risk areas. The Balearic Islands with Mallorca and the Canary Islands were not included until July 9th.
