Honda will have concessions in MotoGP in 2022 if it does not make a podium

The largest factory on the planet will enjoy concessions next year in the MotoGP world championship if it ends this season without achieving any victory or podium, as confirmed by Motorsport.com.

The concessions system was implemented a few years ago with the idea of accelerating the growth of new manufacturers entering the World Championship, such as Suzuki , KTM and Aprilia at the time, the Italian brand being the only one that, today, still have those concessions.

Basically, the main difference between the constructors who enjoy them and those who don’t, is the number of engines and their development during the season.

Those who do not qualify have seven engines per driver and season, all of them identical, which are sealed in the first grand prize of the course and cannot vary. Those who have already left them behind or never had them, on the other hand, can use up to nine propellants per year (in a World Cup with a minimum of 19 events), and all of them can be different and be developed during the course.

Another advantage is that the teams with concessions are free to carry out private tests with their official riders and testers, while the manufacturers without concessions can only carry out official MotoGP tests.

More differences is that manufacturers are entitled to three wild cards per season, while teams with concessions can do six.

This situation would allow Honda and its riders to train much more and, above all, develop and change engine parts freely during the coming season, but as long as “they don’t get a single podium finish, whatever the Honda rider and in any position, throughout the season”, they underline from the FIM .

During 2020 and 2021, due to the freezing of the engines, the FIM did not admit entries in the club from the teams with concessions, but the door opens for 2022 and it comes just when HRC is going through its worst moment since arriving at the World Championship of motorcycling.
