How is the grid of riders, teams and motorcycles of MotoGP 2022

0

The few teams that had any free places for the 2022 MotoGP season moved quickly in the summer and the grid was defined in the final stretch of 2021.

In 2022 the number of riders in MotoGP will increase after the separation of Gresini Racing from Aprilia and the entry of Valentino Rossi’s VR46, going from 22 to 24 bikes .

Yamaha’s departure from Viñales turned the market upside down. The 24 places for 2022 already have an owner. Here we explain how the situation is in each team:

Repsol Honda: the official HRC team remains unchanged. Marc Márquez renewed the last time until 2024 and Pol Espargaró will end his contract at the end of 2022.

Ducati: those from Borgo Panigale signed Pecco Bagnaia until 2022. Jack Miller finished his contract at the end of this year and renewed it for one more season.

Monster Yamaha: Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Viñales had a contract with those from Iwata until the end of 2022, but after the departure of the Spaniard, Franco Morbidelli will be his substitute and will race there until 2023.

Suzuki Ecstar: Joan Mir and Álex Rins have also signed with the Hamamatsu brand until 2022, included.

Red Bull KTM: Brad Binder was renewed until 2024. Miguel Oliveira has a contract for one more year.

Aprilia: Aleix Espargaró’s contract unites him with Noale’s directly until 2022 (included). Lorenzo Savadori started the season, but from the second half he was replaced by Maverick Viñales for this year and one more.

Pramac Ducati: Johann Zarco and Jorge Martín will continue to form a couple in 2022 after the Frenchman was renewed and the Spanish confirmed.

Tech3 KTM: Remy Gardner has already been signed for 2022. KTM did not execute Danilo Petrucci’s renewal clause and Iker Lecuona will not follow. Raúl Fernández will be his substitute.

WithU Yamaha RNF : the team takes over from the Sepang Racing Team after the scare of the Petronas oil company. Andrea Dovizioso and Darryn Binder, who makes the jump directly from Moto3, have already been confirmed.

VR46: Il Dottore ‘s team absorbs the two places at Avintia Esponsorama. Ducati will supply two bikes. Luca Marini will have a place, but Enea Bastianini will not be his partner because he does not belong to the Academy. Marco Bezzecchi will be his partner.

LCR Honda: Both Alex Márquez and Takaaki Nakagami have a contract with HRC for 2022. From then on, Lucio Cecchinello will have to negotiate with Honda which riders to follow and how many bikes he has.

Gresini Racing: the team of the Italian champion who died last winter will not continue with Aprilia. Ducati closed the deal to put two more bikes on the track. Fabio Di Giannantonio will make the jump to MotoGP in 2022. Enea Bastianini will accompany him.
