How much does a tap open for 24 hours spend?

There are many studies in this regard on the consumption of water that each inhabitant of our country has. According to many of these data, each citizen spends on average more than 170 liters of water per day . And it is something that is surprising since we are one of the countries of the European Union where there are areas where rain is scarce. Being something so precious and that we should not waste, we can ask ourselves: how much does an open tap spend after a day?

Without having to do the test, that question seems to have an answer. In our home, the water is distributed in several areas where it is necessary to have a water intake for different tasks such as showering, washing and other actions that we carry out on a day-to-day basis.

Bathroom: where it is most consumed

The area of the house with the highest risk of consumption is the bathroom. In this room of the home there are usually a few taps with water to use the shower, the sink or the cistern itself. If we have a bathtub, filling it involves a cost of about 150 to 200 liters of water. However, that figure is reduced if we use the shower, that amount being between 50 and 100 liters per day when we leave the tap open for this purpose.

On the other hand, although it seems that little is consumed with the cistern, the truth is that each time we pull it we spend between 8 and 10 liters, about 12 liters per minute is calculated. A figure that increases this consumption throughout the day if we use the toilet several times.

The kitchen

Although we usually have fewer taps in the kitchen, it is also the room where the most water is spent. When scrubbing, if we leave the tap running, because we don’t have a dishwasher or we don’t want to use it, the expense can be very high, depending on the volume of kitchen utensils we have.

A dishwasher usually consumes about 20 liters, depending on the model , and a washing machine can use up to 70 liters for each wash.

Rest of the house

Consumption in the rest of the home will depend on what we have outside. If we have a hose for irrigation, the ideal is to water first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon. If we water during sunny hours, this water will evaporate and we will have to use more, with the expense that it entails.

If we have a pool, it depends on the size, but without hundreds and hundreds of liters that we can be consuming, that is why good maintenance that does not force us to have to empty it every season and refill, is the most appropriate.
