How the influence of Bagnaia and Miller changed Ducati

0

Since its beginnings in competition, Ducati has been giving its best to give life to a prototype capable of being competitive on any track. With that goal in sight and a bittersweet start to the year for the Italian factory, it seems to confirm that the GP22 could be very close to fulfilling its purpose.

In the process, their regular drivers, Pecco Bagnaia and Jack Miller, have had a lot to do with it. Since they donned the red colors of Borgo Panigale for the first time in 2021, the young man from Turin and the rider from Townsville marked a before and after in the fate of Ducati.

And it is that, the spearhead of the Italian factory does not hide in confirming that, both his personal touch and that of his teammate, have permeated the way of working and the mentality of the team’s garage.

“We started to work in a different way last year, coinciding with the first time that Miller and I were in the factory team. We have helped Ducati to change the way they think about how they had been working before”, introduced the Italian rider .

Going deeper into his impact, Bagnaia did not hesitate to admit that his arrival at the team served as a guideline for the Italian structure.

“Speaking of the tremendous work that Jack [Miller] and I have done since we joined the factory team, I have to say that changing the methodology and trying to go a little bit in another direction has led us to be fast even on very difficult tracks. new fairing was the last step that helped us in that and in fact there are many Ducati in front”.

“Last year the bike was completely the same as in 2020. It had problems in the corners, but we managed to make its behavior better in that sense. Regarding the base bike, in a year our bike began to be a prototype that turned better, So I think we’ve done a great job.”

According to Miller , one of the strongest points of the Italian factory is attention. “One of the best things about the way Ducati works is that they are very direct. When you see the support they give to satellite teams, you realize it,” said the Italian rider.

“If you put pressure on Gigi [Dall’Igna] he will give you what you need, because they want to win and they want to get the best results. He, for example, has told me that he will not stop listening to us and that they will continue to take care of me until end of the year”.

Under the protection of the departure of Jack Miller, there are two names contending for the official seat: Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martín. The Italian factory has placed its expectations on both drivers, despite not having a conclusive result regarding the 2023 place.

Regardless of the successor, Pecco Bagnaia reveals the skills that his new partner must present.

“I hope that my new partner is a person who understands our way of working and who does not begin to generate nervousness in the box. Who wants to collaborate and improve together. That is the key that allows us to improve today at Ducati” .

“The work that I do with Jack is also very important for the development of our bike and it has meant a lot of progress and progress. So I hope that those who come next year can understand that immediately instead of waging an internal war that is useless. The war is celebrated in competition on Sundays”, concluded the Italian.
