How to fix internet connection easily

0

Sending and receiving e-mails, the transmission of television programs or even the own video calls between friends and family require a solid Internet connection. Unfortunately, more often than we would really like, it is common to experience a connection problem. And, as Murphy’s Law, it is common for incidents to start just at those moments when we need it to work properly.

It is enough that we need to send an important email (or that we are even waiting for the arrival of one), or that we are working that vital report at the end of the month that we must deliver in a few hours, so that bad luck stalks us and they start to falls on the line, or ultimately the connection is lost permanently due to an incident.

But when the inevitable happens, and our internet connection is weakened or completely disconnected, we must not panic and remain calm. Maybe all we have to do is restart our router because some specific change in the network has caused an inappropriate modification that will only be solved by turning it on again. Or even restart our computer. Luckily, there are some simple, proven, and effective methods that can help us through these times of stress and anxiety.

Starting at the beginning: checking the router’s LED status lights

In case of not having an Internet connection, a basic recommendation that we must follow from the beginning is to go to our router and check the status of the LED lights that we will find in the upper part, and that indicate if there is any type of incident, and where.

For example, if we do not observe any light, it is most likely that our router is unplugged, or that for some specific reason it does not receive power. Indeed, the solution is as simple as it seems: we must disconnect the power supply and reconnect it again .

If the router does not turn on, we may need to check the outlet or power strip, to also check if they are receiving power. If the fault lies with the power strip or the socket, there will not be any specific problem with the Internet connection, and it will be enough to connect the router to another socket, if possible independent.

Since we are in front of the router, it is also advisable to check it and make sure that everything is connected where it originally should be . To do this, it is convenient to check all the lights and be aware of some colors or warnings that could indicate that something is not right, such as red lights.

Checking the network connection

If we do not have an Internet connection in a certain device, such as a mobile phone or our laptop, but we do have an Internet connection in others, we must verify the Wi-Fi connection. If we use Windows, we can access the Troubleshooting option to run a diagnostic analysis, while on Mac it will be enough to access System and Network Preferences.

In case of not having Wi-Fi connection, and what is failing is Ethernet, then we must verify it. For example, by directly changing the cable that we have connected to our computer.

Restart your computer

It is true that it may seem like a fairly simple suggestion, but sometimes restarting the computer becomes one of the easiest ways to solve the vast majority of problems that may have arisen .

In fact, a simple reboot will clear the wrong settings that could be causing some connectivity problem. And, if it is useful, it will only take us a few seconds (the time it takes to tell the operating system to restart), and then how long it takes for the computer to start up and complete the task.

Make sure the laptop’s wireless adapter is enabled

If we are using a laptop, or a desktop computer but connected to the wireless network (Wi-Fi) instead of using an Ethernet cable, we must check that the wireless adapter is enabled .

Especially in the case of a laptop, some devices have a switch or button that enables or disables the wireless adapter. And it could have happened that we have pressed it without realizing it. We will only have to press it again, or check in the Device Manager panel if it has been disabled.
