On many occasions it is possible that we need to hide a certain image or even a video on our mobile phone, especially in those moments in which we could run the risk that, in the end, the less suitable person ends up viewing it.
For example, we may not want you to be able to see certain old photographs, we may find ourselves editing a video to surprise you in the very near future, or we simply want to hide an image of the gift that we are going to give you for your birthday.
Fortunately, it is possible to hide certain photos and videos on the iPhone in order to make them private , and thus avoid the unnecessary risk that they may be visible to other nearby users.
Hiding photos and videos in the Photos app
The Photos application has practically identical functionality to the Android Gallery app, so that in this iOS application we find not only the photographs that we have taken with the device, but also the different videos that we have recorded.
In fact, when we take a photograph or record a video with our iPhone or iPad, it is normal for both files to end up in the photo library , along with other snapshots and videos. But it is possible to prevent this from happening.
To prevent both photos and videos from appearing in the normal library (that is, within Photos), it is possible to use the Hide option, which we will find within this application on iOS .
In this way, we will be able to hide the photo or video from the common Photos view, so that it will not be displayed while we navigate through the folder and “For you” recommendations based on that file will not be created either.
To achieve this, it is as simple as looking for that photo or video that we want to hide from other people’s view. We touch the Share button, located in the lower left corner, and we scroll down until we find the Hide option. From then on, that particular file will be hidden from view.
It is, it is true, a useful option, but not very secure to say, since it is not possible to “lock” the hidden album, or even hide a photo or video behind our access code, Face ID or Touch ID , as would be expected at first.
This basically means that any other person who has access to our iPhone, when it is unlocked, will be able to open the Hidden folder with a few taps, since this functionality only does is order the main library, allowing us to keep some photos or videos without remove them completely.
Where do the photos or videos that we have hidden go?
We must bear in mind that these files have not been deleted or have disappeared. Rather, it simply means that they are not visible. To find them, within the Albums tab (in the Photos application) a new album called Hidden will appear.
To find it, we will only have to scroll to the end of the list, and we will find it in the Other albums section.
