People who are physically fit and active throughout the week get fewer colds . And when they do get constipated, their symptoms are much milder than usual, according to a study published by the British Journal of Sports Medicine .

Specifically, the research reveals that the number of days that physically active people spend sick each year is reduced by 46% (almost half) compared to those who only practice sports once a week or who lead a sedentary life. In addition, the severity of symptoms decreases by up to 41% in physically fit individuals. According to the authors of the work, this is due to the fact that every time we practice exercise of a certain intensity, the cells of the immune system that circulate in our blood increase , capable of fighting harmful viruses and bacteria, thus reducing the number and severity of infections , including the common cold. The levels of these defenses fall a few hours after exercising, hence the importance of regular physical activity.
