Incidence drops further to 289.0 – concern about omicron

The RKI registered 45,659 new infections. The number of reported infections has been falling for around three weeks. However, experts fear an imminent trend reversal.

Berlin – The nationwide seven-day incidence has decreased compared to the previous day. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Wednesday morning as 289.0.

For comparison: the day before the nationwide value was 306.4, a week ago it was 353.0 (previous month: 386.5).

The health authorities in Germany reported 45,659 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:51 a.m. Exactly one week ago there were 51,301 infections. The number of reported infections has been falling for around three weeks. However, due to the more contagious Omicron variant, experts fear an imminent trend reversal.

510 deaths within 24 hours

According to the new information, 510 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 453 deaths. The RKI has counted 6,878,709 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Tuesday at 4.73 (Monday: 4.73). The RKI stated the number of people recovered on Wednesday at 5,933,400. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 109,324. dpa
