Queen Elizabeth II had to go through a real shock last Christmas. An intruder has been arrested in the grounds of Windsor Castle. The gunman, who harbored murder intent, has now been charged.

London – As the head of state of Great Britain, Queen Elizabeth II (96) leads a life in the focus of world public opinion. Being a queen is a lifetime job that demands a lot from her and also has its downsides. The royal family is repeatedly reminded that not everyone supports the regent and her office.

Christmas Incident: Armed intruder attempted to assassinate Queen Elizabeth

Last December, the contemplative Christmas spirit at Windsor Castle came to an abrupt end. On December 25, a young man gained access to the extensive property of the residence, where Queen Elizabeth II is said to have celebrated with her eldest son Prince Charles (73) and his wife Duchess Camilla (75). The then 19-year-old, who was carrying a crossbow, apparently wanted to murder the monarch.

Fortunately, the troublemaker was unable to carry out his plan and was arrested by the police before he could even enter a building. After several months of investigation, the intruder has now been charged, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement. He is accused of, among other things, death threats and possession of weapons.

Charges of gun possession and death threats: burglar has to go to court

On August 17, the Southampton-based defendant, who is currently in custody, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London. According to The New Daily, he faces up to seven years in prison.

Queen Elizabeth II could follow the intruder’s trial from Scotland. The 96-year-old is spending her long summer break at Balmoral Castle again this year. Other members of the royal family keep her company there. For example, William (40) and Kate (40) move into the Tam Na Ghar Cottage when they are in Scotland.
