Mixing energy drinks and alcohol , for example Red Bull TM and vodka, is becoming increasingly popular with young people. A study from the University of Northern Kentucky (USA) published in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research shows for the first time that the combination is "dangerous", since it increases the risks associated with alcohol consumption . In particular, Cecile A. Marczinski and her colleagues have found that adding energy drinks to alcohol increases "feelings of excitement and impulsiveness."
Although previous data already existed that suggested that the new "cocktail" was associated with an increase in accidents and injuries, this is the first time that a scientific experiment comparatively analyzes the effects of alcohol and the mixture of alcohol and energy drink on the behaviour.
