Is the corona pandemic over soon? Lauterbach amazes with a cryptic statement

Virologist Christian Drosten outlines how an end to the corona pandemic would be possible. On Twitter, however, Karl Lauterbach causes frowns.

Frankfurt / Berlin – The clear words that virologist Christian Drosten chose about a possible end to the corona pandemic still resonate. He gave vaccinated people hope that they would soon return to normal in 2022. “I assume that we will actually be in a completely normal state with people who are ready and willing to vaccinate. The pandemic will be over for these people, “said Virologist Drosten in an interview with Deutschlandfunk.

But the end of the pandemic is not in sight for everyone. The high number of unvaccinated people can ensure that Germany cannot enter an endemic phase. In the event of an endemic, the coronavirus would continue to spread relatively constantly, but be less dangerous. But Germany is still a long way from such a phase due to the large vaccination gap, especially among those over 60. “If we can’t do it. That will catch up with us again next winter, ”says Drosten. A tweet from Karl Lauterbach (SPD) caused question marks for some Twitter users, because his statement suggests something different for some.

Karl Lauterbach, seen here at a federal press conference, caused a stir with a tweet.

Is the corona pandemic over soon? Lauterbach tweet causes question marks

At first glance, the new Federal Minister of Health just allowed himself a joke shortly before New Year’s Eve. He shared a photo of a window sill decorated for Christmas. Behind the window, your gaze wanders over a wintry, snowy landscape. But in one corner of the window none other than Karl Lauterbach peeps into the apartment.

However, Lauterbach not only demonstrated a considerable portion of self-irony with the obviously edited photo, the caption also led to a smile: “Don’t overdo it. I see you, greetings your Karl. “He found the photo on the Internet, said the Minister of Health. So far so good, but what caused astonishment is not the picture itself, but the tweet text from Lauterbach.

“I found that on the internet. It is not entirely wrong. I wish you a nice final evening in 2021 and appeal to everyone to be careful one last time. Testing, very small groups, face mask where necessary and watching TV alone if symptoms occur. Happy New Year. KL “, it says. Having to be careful with the words “one last time” in the face of Corona irritated some users.

A user copied Lauterbach’s tweet and tagged these words. “I saved that,” he announced. Another wrote: “One last time means: From tomorrow everything will be back as it was before? Cool. Thank you. ”But other users were quickly on hand and emphasized that, of course,“ One last time in 2021 ”was meant, which can already be seen from the punctuation. Nevertheless, the choice of words caught some people, one user commented on the health minister’s corona post with the words: “One ‘last time’. Just like last year ”.

The next federal and state summit will be about the quarantine regulation. Karl Lauterbach announces new corona rules. (slo)
