The corona numbers in Italy continue to decline. With its “green pass”, the country is now attracting holidaymakers and the travel season is starting.
Rome – “Book now, we look forward to seeing you!” With these words, Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi is now wooing tourists. The invitation has been in effect since Saturday and is linked to relaxation for vacationers. Corona easing in Italy: aggressive advertising for vacationers
The basis of the tourist invitation from the Italian premier is the continuing decline in the corona numbers. The seven-day incidence sank according to information from Friday, as in Germany, below the value of 100. The authorities registered about 96 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week (as of May 13). Three Italian regions even fell below the value of 50. Almost 8,000 people in Italy are infected with the corona virus every day.
The country with 60 million inhabitants in southern Europe is starting to relax its rules in view of the corona * numbers that have been falling for weeks. From Monday, all regions, with the exception of the Aosta Valley in the north, are to be designated as so-called yellow zones. Due to a moderate virus risk, minor corona restrictions apply here.
Corona rules in Italy: Restaurants open until 10 p.m.
Specifically, this means the following rules in the yellow zones:
- Restaurants and bars can open until 10 p.m.
- Hotels are allowed to receive tourists
- Museums, theaters and cinemas are open
- Retail and swimming pools can open.
- Outdoor sports are allowed

Italy advertises with its “green passport” to attract tourists despite Corona
In view of the falling numbers, Italy is now campaigning aggressively for tourists and with its so-called “green passport” is anticipating an EU regulation that is to come in mid-June. The most important innovation for holidaymakers is that the quarantine does not apply after entry if travelers can show a negative PCR or antigen rapid test that is not older than 48 hours. Fully vaccinated and those who have already recovered can also enter the country.
This is what Italy calls its “green passport”. So this is not an explicit passport document. Draghi means with “green passport” various certificates of vaccination, test or recovery.
Vacation in Italy despite Corona: travel home also made easier
So far, it has not been decided whether foreign holidaymakers have to carry a certificate in Italian or English. It certainly can’t do any harm. With this “green pass”, vacationers can then travel freely between the orange and red zones.
For German vacationers, the quarantine on their journey home has recently been canceled, as Germany has removed Italy from the list of high-risk areas.
